The National Eye Donation Fortnight was observed through a joint initiative by the Vijayapuram Social Service Society (VSSS) and the Eye Disease Prevention Wing of the Kottayam Government Medical College, featuring an eye donation event and a free eye check-up camp at the Kurichy St. Xavier’s Church Parish Hall on September 5.
The inaugural meeting was presided over by Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Joseph Tharayil and officially inaugurated by VSSS Assistant Director Rev.Fr. Anas Paul Karotunalunnel. As part of the observance, Medical College Dr. Ashwathy and Counselor Saneesh led detailed sessions on the importance of eye donation and the procedures involved in pledging eyes. The welcome address was delivered by PDC Secretary Shibu P. Koyippallithara, followed by a vote of thanks by PDC Vice President Paul P.C.
Sr. Valsamma, Sr. Susan RFTS, Animator Finimol Palathingalthoppil spearheaded the coordination of the programs. Active support was provided by the PDC members and Asha workers. Witnessing enthusiastic participation from various localities, a total of 80 individuals underwent comprehensive eye examinations at the camp.
