Free Eye Screening Camp Held at Mundakkayam St. Mary’s Church

MUNDAKKAYAM: A comprehensive eye screening camp was successfully organized at Mundakkayam St. Mary’s Church on March 14, under the joint auspices of the Vijayapuram Social Service Society (VSSS) and the District Blindness Control Society of the Kottayam Medical College Ophthalmology Department. The initiative aimed to provide expert eye care and consultation to the local community.

​Inauguration and Official Ceremony
​The inaugural meeting was presided over by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Dennis Kannamaly. The event was officially inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Felix Devasia Puratheparambil, Executive Director of the Vijayapuram Social Service Society. During his keynote address, he emphasized the importance of regular eye check-ups and the organization’s commitment to community health and welfare.

​Expert Awareness Session
​In observance of Glaucoma Week, a specialized awareness session was conducted to educate the public on the “silent thief of sight.” Dr. Aswathy from the Medical College Ophthalmology Department led the class, providing vital information on early detection, prevention, and the latest treatment options for glaucoma and general eye health.

​Key Contributors and Leadership
​The ceremony commenced with a welcome speech by the Parish Council Secretary, Mr. Reji Chacko. Felicitations were offered by Fr. Job Kuzhivayalil and Sister Valsamma RFTS, who lauded the collaborative effort of the medical team and volunteers. The vote of thanks was proposed by PDC member Ms. Susamma Varghese Mandapathil.

​The camp’s successful execution was spearheaded by the Parish Priest alongside PDC Secretary Varghese George Keethara and Animator Ms. Minimol Joseph Alappattu. Their coordinated efforts ensured that 172 individuals received expert medical attention and necessary follow-up guidance.
