Sevanalaya Hospital, Pambanar
Besides the Mother and Child Health programme launched by us in the Peermade zone, Vijayapuram Social Service Society started a rural dispensary at Pambanar, because dispensaries have been the most common providers of health services and the only form of health facility in Idukki district. The seasonal distribution of the common diseases as malaria, gastroenteritis, chest infections, skin diseases, gonorrhoea, and schistosomiasis (a disease caused by parasitic worms) shows that infection follows the pattern of rainfall and climate change. 60% of the people thus affected were not receiving dispensary services because of the remoteness of their habitats… Many cases of delivery cases ended up in the death of either the child or the mother or both. There were no facilities to attend to ortho cases and other serious cases.
This being the situation, Vijayapuram Social Service Society constructed a hospital in Pambanar with the support of Misereor Germany and some other single benefactors, in 1983 and opened for the public in 1986. Partage France supported the hospital for its expansion and for setting up operation theatre, X-Ray unit etc.
The hospital administration is entrusted with the Sisters of Charity of Saints Bartolomea Capitanio and Vincenza Gerosa (SCCG)
